China's fixed-asset infrastructure investment hit a record 295,888 hundred million CNY in 2016, exactly twenty times the 14,194 recorded in 2000, according to annual data from the National Bureau of Statistics tracking transport, water, energy and public-facility spending.

After the peak, investment fell sharply to 138,947 in 2017 and, despite a gradual recovery, reached only 215,000 in 2024, still 27 percent below the record.
